FAQ
- Why can’t I use a standard travel insurance policy?
- Standard travel insurance policies do not offer you cover if you are travelling overseas for medical, cosmetic or dental treatment. You will be liable for any additional costs incurred.
- Why should I take out a policy with Angelis?
- Standard travel insurance policies contain an exclusion clause which specifies that you're not covered if ‘travelling for the purpose of obtaining medical treatment’. If you make a claim which is not related to your treatment, such as for baggage loss, airport delays etc. and your insurance company discovers that you were travelling to have treatment, they may refuse to pay out on any claims.
- Am I still covered for standard travel policy problems such as baggage loss, airport delays etc?
- Yes, you are covered for everything a standard travel insurance policy would cover for.
- Will you also insure a travel companion if I choose to take someone with me when I travel?
- Yes - we can also offer insurance for companions. Please note that their policy must be purchased separately to the patients.
- What happens if I need to extend my stay due to slow recovery time?
- Angelis Insurance may contribute towards any additional costs involved in extending your stay.
- Why can I only use accredited establishments?
- Angelis supports the accreditation processes and we want you to be assured of the highest standards and best care possible - it is for this reason we only cover treatment at internationally accredited establishments.
- Where can I find out about accredited establishments?
- You can click on the links below to find a list of their accredited establishments.
Accredited means hospitals/clinics or dental surgeries accredited to one the following:
Joint Commission International
ISQUA: The International Society for Quality in Health Care
ESQH: European Society for Quality in Healthcare
Trent Accreditation Scheme (UK)
Quality Health New Zealand
Netherlands Institute for Accreditation of Hospitals
Council for Health Service Accreditation of Southern AfricaIn respect of dental treatment, accredited hospitals, clinics or surgeries shall include any located within the EU which are approved by the relevant dental authority for the destination country.
- What happens if I travel abroad more than once to have treatment?
- Angelis Insurance is currently a single trip policy.
- If the person travelling with me becomes ill on holiday and we have to extend our stay, will I be covered as well?
- Yes, like any other travel insurance policy, if the person you are travelling with falls ill and you are required to stay then a contribution towards your expenses may be covered.
- What is EHIC?
- A European Health Insurance Card which entitles the bearer to receive state-provided medical treatment in any EU country. It provides you with the same benefits as the residents of that country. In some countries you are required to make a small contribution towards the cost of your treatment.
- Why do I need an Angelis insurance policy if I already have an EHIC?
- EHIC will only cover you for medical treatment in the EU while abroad, it will not cover repatriation, personal possessions, money, liability etc. - all of which are generally covered by an Angelis policy.
- How do I obtain a policy?
- You can receive a copy of your policy via email.
- How can I make payment?
- We accept all major debit and credit cards.
- How do I get assistance while I’m away?
- You can call our 24 hour helpline on 01992 444337.
- How do I get compensation for any bills I have to pay?
- If you do have to pay any bills yourself, make sure you keep a copy of the receipt. Send the receipts to us and we will then reimburse you as part of your claim.
